An Englishman in America

at the English seaside, aged 2

I grew up in a leafy suburb in London, England, with my sister and brother, raised by both parents. My parents are still together living in my childhood home, and have been happily married for 45 years. I experienced a loving and stable home environment, resulting in close relationships with my parents and siblings. We get together a few times a year either in London, San Francisco or somewhere new, continuing our tradition of family vacations.

My love of travel has taken me all over the world. These mind-opening experiences have broadened my perspectives on life and the human spirit, and from this I have truly learned to appreciate the beauty of difference.

I first vacationed in the US when I was 18 years old, and on arriving in New York City on a beautiful summer’s day, a love affair began. It was an aspiring architect’s dream! So, at aged 21, I returned to New York to work as an intern in architecture. It was only after a visit to San Francisco some years later that I became enchanted by the city and surrounding landscape and knew that I wanted to settle here and raise a child. Twelve years later, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Being by the ocean and close to the mountains, yet in a cosmopolitan and dynamic city, has proved to be the perfect combination for a stimulating, varied and balanced lifestyle. A place where my child would interact with people from many different backgrounds and have an unlimited variety of interests and opportunities.
